Ski Tours & Cross-Country Skiing in Kartitsch

The area around Kartitsch in the Tyrolean Gail Valley offers numerous opportunities for varied ski tours. The surrounding mountains of the Carnic Alps offer suitable routes for both beginners and experienced tourers – from leisurely climbs to more challenging tours. A special experience is the evening ski tour in St. Oswald, which is possible at the Dorberglift village lift.

Cross-country skiers will also get their money’s worth: In the region, there are around 400 kilometers of perfectly groomed cross-country trails available, embedded in the quiet winter landscape of East Tyrol. The Obertilliach Biathlon Center, just a few minutes away, is one of the most renowned cross-country skiing centers in the Alps with its extensive network of trails starting around mid-November.

Kartitsch in East Tyrol has been considered Austria’s first winter hiking village since 2018 and stands for decelerated winter experiences away from the hustle and bustle. The idyllic mountaineering village is located in a sunny high valley in the Alps and particularly appeals to guests who appreciate nature, peace, and exercise in winter.

Around Kartitsch, eight certified winter hiking trails invite you to discover the snowy landscape at a leisurely pace. At 1300m above sea level in the Tyrolean Gail Valley, the village offers ideal conditions for enjoyable tours with impressive views of the Lienzer Dolomites, the Carnic Alps and as far as Italy – without having to overcome major differences in altitude.

Kartitsch also has a lot to offer away from the winter hiking trails: Two toboggan runs with different lengths and levels of difficulty provide variety and fun in the snow. The ice skating and curling rink in the village rounds off the winter offer and delights winter sports fans of all ages.
