The Karnische Höhenweg trail
The Carnic High Trail, also known as the “Peace Trail”, runs along the Carnic ridge on the border between Austria and Italy. The approximately 150-kilometer-long long-distance hike leads from Sillian to Arnoldstein and is divided into 8 to 11 daily stages. The trail combines alpine challenging passages with gentle mountain landscapes, wide alpine meadows and panoramic high-altitude trails.
At the same time, the Carnic ridge is an important historical site: along the route, trenches, bunkers, old positions, and military cemeteries commemorate the events of the First World War, making the high-altitude trail an impressive natural and historical experience.
